Job Position- Sales & Customs Clearance Officer (sea freight)
Required Qualification and Experience
Education: Valid Ethiopian Customs Clearing License
Minimum of 4 years’ experience logistics industry, in customs system Sea fright operation
In-depth knowledge of Ethiopian customs procedures, regulations, and tariff codes
Attention to detail, accuracy, and a high level of integrity
Strong communication skills and ability to work under pressure
Proficiency in using customs declaration software and basic computer applications
Knowledge of Djibouti corridor logistics
Familiarity with dry ports and multimodal transport
Sales and customer handling
Documentation accuracy and compliance
Problem-solving in cargo delays and clearance issues
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Business Development
Identify and approach potential clients for freight and logistics services
Promote sea freight, customs clearance, and transport solutions
Prepare quotations and negotiate rates with clients
Support revenue growth by securing new business and retaining existing clients
Coordinate with operations to ensure service delivery matches sales commitments
Sea Freight & Port Operations
Coordinate import/export shipments via Port of Djibouti
Follow up vessel schedules, cargo arrival, and documentation
Liaise with shipping lines and freight forwarders
Monitor cargo movement from port to inland destinations
Handle cargo clearance and transfer through Modjo Dry Port and other dry ports
Coordinate with transport companies for timely delivery
Track trucking operations between Djibouti and Ethiopia
Prepare and submit customs documents (invoice, packing list, bill of lading)
Process declarations using Ethiopian Customs Commission
Ensure compliance with import/export regulations
Calculate duties, taxes, and follow up on payments
Verify shipping and customs documents for accuracy
Maintain proper filing and record systems
Ensure adherence to Ethiopian trade and logistics policies
Act as a liaison between clients, customs officials, transporters, and port authorities
Facilitate smooth cargo clearance and delivery processes
Resolve operational issues (delays, documentation errors, inspections)
